I don't like jigsaws much, I haven't tried to complete a puzzle since I was a child. As an adult I associate jigsaws with very elderly people, usually in care homes, bleak and boring. After watching this movie, however, I would actually prefer doing a jigsaw puzzle than watching this movie again.
Jigsaw (2002) has little to do with actual jigsaws. The movie is about a serial killer mannequin that takes parts of the people it kills. The mannequin itself is made up of different parts, each part made by a different student from an art class. The teacher, who is a creep, wants the students to make the mannequin then burn it. It is a strange art class.
Before the mannequin is put on a bonfire we get to hear various stories, some more interesting than others. For no reason that I can discern the mannequin comes to life. Fair enough we don't need a reason, but why didnt he burn and melt in the fire? Are mannequins fireproof? Anyway before long the mannequin starts to murder people one by one.
Some movie's are low budget, but manage to pull off looking like a big budget movie. Then there are movies with no budget, and I am guessing this movie is one of them. A no budget movie can be successful but it needs to be something new, something interesting and different. This movie has little to seperate it from countless horror movies. It is a plastic Frankenstein's monster.
The movie has a coherent if not original plot. The acting on the otherhand is pretty awful, as is the dialogue. The special effects are probably good for a movie with no budget but when you watch a movie do you really take that into account? I don't. Perhaps the worst part of the movie was the ending. Did they really think there would be a sequel?
1 out of 10, avoid.
