Well I finally watched Saw V, and not just any old Saw V but the extreme edition! Yes in the name of horror I watched a movie that ordinarily I would avoid. To be honest I would prefer to watch a real saw, an electric one, cutting wood into nice planks.
I will admit I did enjoy the first Saw movie, it was at the time, something a bit different to other movies. The 2nd movie within the franchise upped the ante in terms of traps but it lost something, and with each new movie they lost my interest completely.
By this movie they really are dredging the depths to try and make a full length movie. Part of my problem with these movies, leaving aside my enjoyment of the first one, is I find the premise of the movies to be ridiculous. And with each movie things get more ridiculous.
By Saw V Jig Saw has went to the great tool shed in the sky, hopefully not Tom Anderson's. But... the killings are still happening , oh noes! The plot can be summarised as: two policemen have a battle of wits, one wins and the other loses. The rest of the plot is either window dressing or there as a mechanism to allow scenes involving Jig Saw.
I am perhaps being harsh, there are positive points to the film. Certainly if you enjoy your horror to be full of gore then this edition of movie should satisfy you. Also, the traps are quite clever and special effects are good also. The acting is also decent.
All in all if you are a fan of Saw it won't matter what I say or write, you will find something of value in this movie.
