On the heels of watching Crocodile (2000) I decided there was no better time to watch Crocodile 2: Death Swamp. After watching Crocodile I was less than optimistic as sequels are rarely better than the first movie. Luckily the first Crocodile was completely awful, so compared to the original this sequel was actually better, not by much, but it was better.
The plot of Crocodile 2: Death Swamp is even more contrived than the original. When I started to watch the movie I thought perhaps I had put the wrong dvd in the player. The movie starts with a bank robbery, no crocodile involed. We then cut to a scene in an airport where the ruthless bank robbers are boarding a flight. There is a bad storm that forces the captain to turn the plane around. Things start to get crazy, and our bank robbers are so determined to get to their destination that they hijack the plane. People get shot, and the plane crashes into a swamp... wait for it... there are crocodiles and the carnage begins!
The main thing this movie has going for it is that I watched it after watching Crocodile, so by comparison this movie seemed almost a decent movie. The special effects are better, the crocodile looks a bit more realistic, but compared to the first movie a crocodile sock puppet would have looked better. The acting in Crocodile 2 is better, no doubt about that. There is some gore but probably not enough to satisfy gore fans.
It is definitely a better movie than Crocodile, but it still isn't that good.
