Don't Knock Twice, a movie about doors and the people that knock them exactly twice. So let's say you knock three times on the door, will something bad still happen? Something bad certainly happened when I decided to watch this movie that's for sure. I am going to be blunt, this is a movie that I would recommend avoiding like the plague.
The plot of Don't Knock Twice appears simple at first but gradually becomes more complex and unfortunately more cliched. The movie is a family drama at times, involving an stranged daughter and her ex junkie mother but it is also the typical ghost/demon movie. A girl knocks twice on the door of a creepy house where ghosts are said to live. Low and behold she awakens something. The rest of the movie revolves around the mother and daughter attempting to survive and stop the chain of events the daughter has started.
You may be thinking that sounds quite interesting if somewhat unoriginal. Unfortunately the movie is just so cliched and borrows so much from other movies that it becomes a tangled mess. Elenents of the film reminded me of Lights Out with the turning on and off of lights and the oh look a ghost, poof now it's gone. The film at times reminded me of Drag Me to Hell, The Grudge, and Candyman. It was almost as if they had a checklist of cliched elements of ghost/demon movies and ticked them off one by one. The end result is a confused film without any identity.
The plot starts out simple, but by the end of the movie the plot holes are so obvious it made me think they were just making it up as they went along. The acting ranges from awful to competent with the actress playing the teenage daughter putting in the most competent performance. The movie is also just too long, it simply isn't an interesting movie so you will literally feel like the movie is without end. There are some nice horror images but we have seen them all before in films such as the Ring. The worst fault of this movie is simply that it is boring.

Summary: it is such a cynical movie, avoid.
