Frost, the enemy of car windscreens, finally gets a movie of its own. Yeah! Only thing is, I remember having seen a lot of snow in the movie but not much frost unless of course my understanding of frost differs from other people's definition. The Thing (1982) is one of my favourite horror movies and takes place in an environment of snow and ice. Whilst I wasnt expecting a movie that good what I got was barely even a movie. Truly a turd was laid out upon the tundra.
The plot, what little there was is as follows: man travels to meet partner, she works in Iceland, I think? (not the supermarket). That night they go to sleep, they wake up and everyone is gone, no one has returned. Rest of film spent looking for them, instead they find something else. You are probably thinking I am being vague, I can assure you I am not. The film really is that ambiguous, I really don't know what exactly is going on. There seems to be a sub plot involving a potential virus that reanimates the dead, and makes them live again. The movie also hints at, and this is just my opinion, that there might be aliens or some other higher power at work. Again, just my opinion, in truth you can pretty much interpret the film anyway you like, it really is that vague.
Frost is of course a found footage horror movie and not a good one. It was filmed in Iceland and Icelandic is the spoken language so you will have to read sub titles unless you happen to speak Icelandic. The movie, like many other found footage movies, suffers from the usual slow, really slow, pacing followed by a burst of activity at the end. What activity we do get is, however, difficult to make out as we have the shaky camera and any time the strange lights happen we get distortion in the film, so at any given time it can be very difficult to make out what is happening. It is difficult for me to think of any positive features of this movie apart from the opening scenes, when you get to see some beautiful scenery. That is really about the most interesting thing.
Avoid this film, it was awful, even by found footage standards this is awful.
