Apologies to anyone still reading my blog, I know at least one person does, it has been too long since the last review. Without further delay I present to you Jack Frost (1997) the story of a bloodthirsty serial killer turned to snow. I will admit to having watched this a long time ago but I didn't recall much about it. Upon reflection I am glad I took the opportunity to rewatch and review it. Despite being a low budget cheesy affair it was wholesome, funny and entertaining.
Jack Frost begins with notorious serial killer Jack Frost shackled in the back of a prison transfer van on the way to be executed. He kills the guard but the prison transfer vehicle crashes into another vehicle carrying an experimental acid that can trap the human soul. One things leads to another and Jack is dissolved into the snow. I think you know where this is going? At least, I hope so! A short time later people in Snowmonton start to get killed, the Sheriff of Snowmonton was responsible for catching Jack and suspects he has come back. Can the Sheriff save the town or will Jack Frost reign down his ice cold vengeance?
Those of you that enjoy a good low budget comedy horror should enjoy this movie. Yes the technical aspects of the movie are as you might imagine awful but it embraces them and turns them into it's strengths. Something that is made that much easier by the fact it is a comedy horror and quite a good one at that. The dialogue is corny, the acting is ropey but it is the first movie outing of Shannon Elizabeth for those of you that might be fans. The kills are quite memorable, particularly one involving a shower scene.
Apparently Jack Frost has quite the cult following, well with my more recent viewing count me a newly converted member.
